Perhaps the Gods of Olympus ordered that Russia was to host the Winter Olympics. The vote of the IOC members in Guatemala City, on the fourth of July, handed the victory to Sochi – a resort town on the Black Sea. This splendid place will be the site of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Zeus and his cohorts did not make this selection haphazardly. Sochi is the city that has one hundred and forty-seven kms of warm, caressing beaches. Sochi is often called “the Russian Riviera” because of its charming landscapes and scenery. The elite of the Ancient Greek Gods live in Olympus mountain: Sochi is closely surrounded by the Caucasus, and Mt. Elbrus, at 5,642 m, is considered to be the roof of Europe. This wonderful region has a unique climate: in May one can start their day skiing and end it with swimming in the sea.

There are a lot of interesting things to say about this magic land. It is impossible to cover everything all at once. You, valued reader, will become acquainted many legends and stories about it in the future issues of this rubric of LiveRus.com online Magazine.

The first time the Olympics were in Russia was in 1980, in Moscow. The 2014 Olympics is the first Winter Olympics in Russia. I vividly remember the spirit of brotherhood and comradeship between Muscovites, towards fellow Russians and especially towards foreigners. There was an air of universal brotherhood that pulsated on the streets at that time.

For Russians, there are a lot of preparations ahead. The planned activities include the construction of exclusive hotels and sports complexes, so that visitors feel they are in the most luxurious European resorts. The participants of the Games will be met by a friendly, hearty atmosphere and premium quality facilities, such as rinks, ski-jumps and routes to prove their results so that  «Citius, Altius, Fortius!».1) sounds to its full capacity. Russia is glad to do its best to ensure the level of the Games is the best.

In my mind I can already see myself breaking a bottle of Champagne over the ship and declaring “Happy Sailing!”
